Building and interior material prices become meaningful only when the complete project scope is visible. Product, freight, preparation, installation and aftercare can each change the final cost. Compare like with like instead of ranking isolated headline rates.

A material rate does not describe the project total. Add cartons, waste, freight, unloading, preparation, fixings, labour, access equipment, tax, disposal and maintenance. Two quotes are only comparable when the same dimensions, finish and scope are being priced.
| Cost layer | Questions to record |
|---|---|
| Material | Code, dimensions, finish, coverage, batch and spares |
| Preparation | Removal, levelling, moisture, backing and waterproofing |
| Installation | Adhesive, labour, trims, curing, access and protection |
| Handover | Cleaning, disposal, care, warranty and replacement route |
Give each supplier the same plans, quantities, destination, access conditions and target date. Ask for assumptions and exclusions as separate lines. A low price that removes unloading or preparation is a scope change, not necessarily a saving.
List unknown substrate conditions, special cuts, storage and delivery restrictions as provisional items. This makes later variations understandable and keeps the decision based on evidence.
There is no useful answer without a scope, performance requirement, freight, installation and maintenance plan.
Compare separate and installed totals, but make sure the same preparation, access and handover tasks are included.
Use the same drawings, specifications, quantities, destination, exclusions and acceptance standard for every supplier.
Evidence boundary: Exact product suitability, Australian requirements, pricing and installation responsibility depend on the selected system and project. Check current manufacturer documents and obtain advice from the relevant Australian building professional before approval.
